Thank You

First of all we would like to say a big thank you to all the parents that help either at weekly meetings, on camp or at other events. It is very much appreciated and we hope to have your continued support in the future.

Annual Subs

The annual subs amount is £82 for Beavers, Cubs and Scouts for the first child and £72 each for the second or third child also in the Group.

Of the total subscription, £36 goes to the Scout Association, which includes Headquarters, County and District. This provides and pays for the Central organisation and Insurance for the uniformed members and helpers in all their activities. The remainder and Tax recovered through Gift Aid goes towards running our HQ (rent, rates, utilities etc). All other Group costs, which amount to more than the subscription income come form other income.

At present this is mainly from hiring out the HQ. Where applicable each section’s termly subs cover the day to day section running costs.

If you have any financial difficulties, we do operate a Bursary Fund. If necessary please discuss with your section leader.

If your child is not planning to continue in our group, please inform your Leader, before we pay the captitation for them.

How to Pay via Online Scout Manager (OSM)

To minimise the administration with regards to collecting subs 18th Purley are only accepting payment for 2023 annual subs via Online Scout Manager.

Once logged in follow links on left: My Child – Payments – click on ‘annual Subs’ or similar title and follow form to set up direct debit. You will need your account number and sort code.

Do same for other children if you have more than 1 in the group. Note the direct debit can be set up as a 1 off payment.

Badges and Awards

Did you know that as well as hiking, healthy eating and camping badges, our Scouts can develop skills in IT, PR and mechanics?

Our activity badges allow Scouts to demonstrate their progress in various pursuits, and help them to form new interests. They are usually awarded when a young person has completed a challenging yet achievable set of requirements.

We also have a number of Challenge Awards, which focus on more ambitious tasks and are themed around the zones of our balanced programme.

And the top awards?

Each section has at least one Chief Scout’s Award; ranked bronze, silver, gold, platinum and diamond.

Many older Scouts also complete the various parts of the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award, or go on an expedition to gain their Explorer Belt.
